About Anne

Northwest Native Anne Alberg grew up overlooking Puget Sound in Ballard a community in North Seattle. Her passion for sailing began as a young girl.
She was lucky to have the opportunity to go sailing with her older brother and his family on a Cal 34. Sailing has always been a big part of Anne’s life.
Anne’s dream of sailing around the world started in the 4th grade at North Beach Elementary in Ballard when two friends Arne and Kristen said their parents were taking them out of school for a year to go sailing.
She thought “Someday that is what I am going to do”.
That same year when Anne was 10 yrs old she was inspired to create this drawing of a sailboat in art class.
Then in high school Anne sailed with her cousin Scott and his dad Barney as well as other friends Stefan, Kris and Kenny.
As a high school graduation present, her father gave her sailing lessons with Windworks at Shilshole Marina.
Anne graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in marketing with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and International Business. She continued to find opportunities to go sailing with friends and occasionally went out on sailboat races including Swiftsure in Victoria, BC, CANADA.
Anne developed a diverse business background working for a variety of start up companies, which luckily included extensive international travel. She used her dynamic people skills to make many friends along her journey of life.
In the 80?s Anne spent some time racing in Puget Sound and at the Tuesday night Duck Dodge on Lake Union. Anne’s passion for sailing continued to grow. Later in her 20?s, Anne became skipper of a Beneteau First 46 which she delivered to San Juans and Desolation Sound/British Columbia for many years.
First International Sailing Experience
Anne’s first international sailing experience was with friends in the Carribean in 1987 on a 40′ Endeavor based in St Barts. International sailing adventures now the Caribbean, Thailand, Myanmar, Australia, Belize, Palau and Mexico. Locally Anne has accumulated over 18 visits into British Columbia CANADA including the Queen Charlotte Islands. Each sailing trip fueled her desire for more adventures on the water.
In 2009 on a trip to the Queen Charlottes in British Columbia, Anne realized that she wanted to figure out how to do something with her passion for sailing. It is now her intention that Sailing Vagabond will allow Anne to make a difference by connecting people through the Global World of Sailing. It was on this trip that Anne realized that it was time to take her passion for sailing to the next level. She got certified by the American Sailing Association and went on to take the Instructor credentials.
Just recently Anne began the process to get her United States Coast Guard OUPV license which allows her to be a hired skipper.
